Your Guide to Austin and Central Texas
Sports
Austin is a sports town. The University of Texas fields mens and womens teams in most sports and all consistently rank well - sometimes even winning national championships. The DK Royal Memorial Stadium for the University of Texas football team seats 80,082 (and can hold 85,000), and is often filled to capacity. The stadium boasts a Jumbotron, currently billed as the largest TV screen in the world - that's an indication of how much Austin loves sports.

Austin and the surrounding area also supports several minor league teams, including the Round Rock Express baseball team, the Austin Ice Bats hockey team, and the newly established Austin Wranglers arena football team.

In addition to these collegiate and organized sports, Austin provides many venues for citizen sports participation. In general, the city is sports and fitness conscious, maintaining many sports fields, parks, and jogging trails for its residents. Seven times Tour de France winner, cyclist Lance Armstrong, and tennis star Andy Roddick, both make Austin their home, along with many other professional sports personages.
